Do I need a Level 2 electrician for a switchboard upgrade?
In most cases, yes. If your switchboard upgrade requires disconnection from the Ausgrid network — for example, replacing old ceramic fuses with a modern consumer mains unit — a Level 2 Authorised Service Provider (ASP) must perform or supervise the network disconnection. Sydney Electrical Service holds an Ausgrid Level 2 ASP licence and can complete the full scope in a single visit.
What is a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW)?
A CCEW is a legal document issued by a licensed electrician and lodged with NSW Fair Trading after every prescribed electrical installation or alteration. It certifies the work complies with the Wiring Rules (AS/NZS 3000) and relevant NSW legislation. Sydney Electrical Service lodges a CCEW for every job and provides you with a copy automatically.
How quickly can an emergency electrician reach me in Sydney?
For metropolitan Sydney suburbs — CBD, Inner West, Eastern Suburbs, North Sydney, South Sydney — our typical response time is 30 to 90 minutes. We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including public holidays. Response time may be longer for outer suburbs or during peak demand periods.
Can you install an EV charger in an apartment or strata building?
Yes, subject to strata by-laws. We handle the full scope: dedicated circuit from the switchboard, wall-mounted charger installation, and any metering or sub-metering required. We work with all major EV charger brands including Tesla Wall Connector, Wallbox, Zappi, and EVSE Australia. Strata approval documentation is your responsibility, but we can provide a technical specification letter to support your application.
Do you charge extra for after-hours or weekend callouts?
We provide a fixed-price quote before any work begins — that price does not change based on time of day or day of week. There are no hidden after-hours surcharges. The price on the quote is the price on the invoice.
What areas of Sydney do you service?
Sydney Electrical Service covers all of metropolitan Sydney, including the CBD, Inner West, Eastern Suburbs, North Sydney, Inner North, North East (Lower North Shore), North West (Hills and Parramatta), South Sydney, and Central West (Burwood, Strathfield, Ashfield). For a full list of suburbs, see our service area pages.
