How to match electrical work to the right service category
Not all electrical work requires the same qualification level or response timeframe. Sydney Electrical Service operates across nine service categories that map to three licensing tiers: Level 2 Accredited Service Provider work — anything touching the network operator's infrastructure, such as metering, overhead and underground mains, and disconnection requests lodged through Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy's CCEW portal; standard electrical contractor work — internal circuits, switchboard component replacement, and RCD retrofits under AS/NZS 3000; and data and communications cabling — structured Cat6/6A installs, fibre termination, and rack builds. If your job involves the meter, the service cable, or a defect notice from your distributor, you need a Level 2 ASP. If it sits downstream of your main switch — lighting circuits, power points, a new oven — a licensed electrical contractor handles it. If the work is low-voltage data only, a registered cabler is the correct resource.
Wherever you need an electrician in Sydney, our service area covers the whole metropolitan region — from the Inner West through to the Northern Beaches, Eastern Suburbs, and Greater Western Sydney. Emergency callouts are dispatched with a 30-minute response commitment for faults causing loss of power or an immediate safety hazard — exposed conductors, smoke from a switchboard, or an RCD lockout preventing re-energisation; non-urgent work is scheduled within a 90-minute arrival window. Commercial and strata clients receive priority booking for scheduled maintenance and multi-site projects.
Every completed job is documented with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, or a defect rectification certificate where applicable. Level 2 upgrades, meter reconfigurations, and service alterations are lodged through the distributor's electronic system within 24 hours of completion. Residual current devices are installed and tested in line with the AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules, and smoke-alarm compliance meets the AS 3786 standard for interconnected photoelectric detectors. Each job reference is retained for warranty traceability and future service-history lookup.
